We visited a village at the edge of the stunning Roviana Lagoon, one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. While nature here is still thriving and has been largely untouched by large commercial operations, the effects of climate change know no boundaries and are visible here as well. Ocean ecoystems are degrading due to warmer water temperatures and more acidic oceans (to name a few stressors) and the fishermen's catch has generally been decreasing over the years. While they can improve local management by implementing startegies to sustainable utilise their resources they cannot stop climate change. They are praying and hoping that us, the rest of the world, will be putting more effort in combating climate change and to keep the warming of our planet to a maximum of 1.5 °C. Higher than that and many reefs - and thus the main protein source of millions of coastal communities - will cease to exist.
